Rotala wallichii - Red Pine tree
Rotala Wallichii
Description: Rotala wallichii is a graceful stem plant originating from soft, acidic water bodies in Southeast Asia. Unlike its relatives, it thrives submerged in deeper waters and produces striking purple flowers on its flower spikes. While not the easiest plant to cultivate, it remains highly sought-after and widely available in the hobby due to its vibrant red stems.
What We Like About This Plant:
- Vibrant Red Stems: Adds a bold splash of color to any aquarium setting.
- Unique Flowering: Produces attractive purple flowers on its spikes.
- Availability: Commonly found in the aquarium trade despite its cultivation challenges.
Growth and Care:
- Nitrate Requirements: Consistent dosing of nitrate is crucial, with smaller and frequent doses being optimal. Nitrate levels should be maintained between 0 and 20-25 ppm for optimal growth.
- Difficulty Level: Moderate to challenging, suitable for aquarists looking for a rewarding growth challenge.
- Adaptability: Adapts well after transitioning from emersed to submerged forms in aquariums.
Note: Plants may vary slightly in appearance upon arrival, as some are grown emersed. They will transition and adapt to their underwater form shortly after being introduced to the aquarium.
