Overview

Introducing one of the most popular Rainbowfish: the Red Irian, also known as the Red Rainbow! Males boast bright colors while females have a silvery appearance. Keep in mind, a male without a female nearby might lose some of its vibrant hues. Rainbowfish are easily recognized by their large eyes, distinctive black or silver band running through their middle scale rows, deeply forked mouths, and two dorsal fins.

These schooling fish thrive in a planted aquarium, but ensure there's enough free-swimming space as they are very active. A gravel substrate is ideal, and you may notice their colors become even more vibrant with darker gravel.

The Red Irian Rainbow is an egg-layer, spawning over several days on moss. After spawning, it's best to remove the adults and raise the eggs separately. The fry should be fed very small live foods.

Despite their large mouths, Red Irian Rainbows have narrow throats, so small foods are recommended. They thrive on an omnivorous diet that includes both prepared and live foods.
