Red Cap Diamond Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare)

The Red Cap Diamond Angelfish is a stunning selectively bred variety of Pterophyllum scalare, prized for its brilliant white to iridescent silver body and distinctive bright red "cap" across the top of its head. Graceful, elegant, and eye-catching, this variety makes an exceptional centrepiece for any peaceful freshwater aquarium.

With their tall fins and calm, flowing movements, Red Cap Diamond Angelfish add elegance and personality to planted aquariums. They thrive in well-maintained tanks with driftwood, plants, and open swimming space. Due to their tall body shape, they are best suited to aquariums with plenty of vertical height.

Although generally peaceful, Angelfish can become territorial during breeding and may establish dominance as they mature. They are best kept with other peaceful fish of a similar size and should not be housed with fin-nipping species or very small fish that could be viewed as prey.

Feeding

Red Cap Diamond Angelfish are omnivores and will readily accept a wide variety of quality foods. Feed a staple diet of premium flakes or pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and daphnia to promote vibrant colouration, healthy growth, and overall vitality.

Care Information

• Diet: Omnivore – accepts high-quality flakes, pellets, frozen, and live foods.
• Temperament: Peaceful to semi-aggressive, particularly during breeding.
• Social Behaviour: Best kept singly, as a bonded pair, or in groups in spacious aquariums.
• Origin: Tank-bred colour variety of Pterophyllum scalare.
• Maximum Size: Approximately 15 cm in body length and up to 20 cm in height.
• Tank Level: Mid to upper water column.

Compatibility: Suitable with tetras, rainbowfish, Corydoras, peaceful gouramis, larger rasboras, and other non-aggressive community fish. Avoid fin-nipping species such as Tiger Barbs and very small fish that may be viewed as food.
