Red Alenquer Discus (Symphysodon sp.)

The Red Alenquer Discus is a stunning variety prized for its rich red coloration, intricate patterning, and classic rounded Discus shape. A spectacular centrepiece fish for a well-maintained tropical aquarium.

Red Alenquer Discus develop beautiful warm red to deep orange tones across the body, often contrasted by darker vertical barring and fine patterning. As they mature and settle into the aquarium, their colour can become increasingly intense, making them an impressive addition to a dedicated Discus setup or peaceful South American-style aquarium.

Like all Discus, Red Alenquers appreciate warm, clean and stable water conditions. They are peaceful fish and are best housed with other Discus or calm tankmates that enjoy similar temperatures. Avoid aggressive, overly active, or fin-nipping species.

Discus are naturally social and, unless keeping an established breeding pair, are best maintained in a group where aquarium size allows. Good filtration, regular water changes and a quality varied diet are important for keeping them in top condition.

Feeding

Feed a varied, high-quality diet including premium Discus pellets or granules, frozen foods and other suitable protein-rich foods. Smaller feeds offered regularly can help maintain excellent body condition, growth and colour.

Tankmates

Suitable companions can include Cardinal Tetras, Rummy Nose Tetras, peaceful Corydoras, German Blue Rams and other compatible Discus, provided all species are comfortable at the higher temperatures Discus prefer.
