Juli’s Cory Catfish (Corydoras julii)
Juli’s Cory Catfish, also known as the Leopard Cory Catfish, is a popular but often misidentified species native to Brazil. Tank-bred specimens are rare in the aquarium hobby and highly sought after for their distinctive spotted markings and peaceful nature. This species is a very animated, schooling fish that is perfect for nano, community, and planted aquariums.
Behaviour & Compatibility
Juli’s Cory Catfish is a peaceful schooling fish compatible with most nano and community aquarium species, including dwarf cichlids and angelfish. They may prey on very small dwarf shrimp, but are safe with larger shrimp and most other peaceful ornamental invertebrates.
As classic scavengers, they inhabit and feed along the aquarium floor, which should be composed of sand or very smooth gravel. Coarse substrate can damage their delicate barbels and underbelly. This species is otherwise undemanding and will accept most dry, frozen, and live foods. They are adaptable to most tropical freshwater conditions as long as standard maintenance is performed and sudden changes are avoided. While they are scavengers, care must be taken to provide a variety of high-quality foods rather than relying on leftovers.
