Jade Tiger Barbs (Puntigrus tetrazona)

Overview

The Jade Green Tiger Barb is a striking colour variety of the popular Tiger Barb, featuring a rich green body and the energetic personality the species is known for.

Tiger Barbs are active, social fish and are best kept in schools of at least 6, although larger groups are even better. Keeping a good-sized school helps encourage natural behaviour and can reduce fin-nipping towards other fish.

Because of their energetic nature, Tiger Barbs are best housed with similarly active, robust tankmates. Avoid keeping them with slow-moving or long-finned fish such as Bettas or fancy Guppies, as Tiger Barbs may nip at their fins. Suitable tankmates can include Danios, Loaches, larger Tetras and many peaceful Catfish.

A planted aquarium with plenty of open swimming space works particularly well. Good filtration and regular water changes will help keep them healthy and displaying their best colour.

Feeding

Jade Green Tiger Barbs are omnivores and readily accept a wide variety of aquarium foods. Feed a quality flake or small pellet as their staple diet and supplement with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia and bloodworms.

A varied diet will help support strong growth, vibrant colour and overall health.
