Imperial Ranger Pleco (Pterygoplichthys sp. "Rio Nanay")
The Imperial Ranger Pleco is a stunning and rare species that's sure to stand out in any planted or peaceful community aquarium. Still scientifically unidentified, this elusive pleco is a real gem—and once you see one, you'll understand why they’re a must-have!
These wild-caught beauties love having caves, driftwood, and overhangs to hide in and explore. While we’ve been told they top out at around 4" in length, they’re relatively new to the aquarium hobby
Their diet leans heavily toward vegetables and plant matter, but they’ll also enjoy the occasional protein-rich treat like bloodworms, krill, or shrimp. Offer veggie wafers, herbivore pellets, and frozen foods, especially around lights out when they’re more active.
Like all plecos, Imperial Rangers thrive in clean, well-maintained water. Keep their environment pristine, and they’ll reward you with their unique beauty and charm.
