Common Name: Helanthium Tenellum ‘Broad Leaf’

Helanthium Tenellum ‘Broad Leaf’ is a great carpeting plant that looks like a cross between dwarf hair grass and micro swords, but with slightly thicker leaves—similar to Dwarf Sagittaria. It spreads by sending out runners across the substrate, gradually covering the foreground of your tank if conditions are right.

In smaller or nano aquariums, it can even be used as a short background plant. It does best with decent lighting and CO₂ injection, which helps promote faster, healthier growth.

Helpful Tips:

  • Avoid sudden changes to your tank’s conditions—unstable parameters can cause the plant to melt or rot.

  • Tissue culture versions are grown in sterile lab environments, meaning they’re free of pests, algae, and snails—great for starting clean.

  • Be sure to remove all the gel before planting. Rinse it off or soak and gently squeeze it away.

  • CO₂ is recommended to get the best results.

  • Do a bit of research to make sure your setup supports this plant’s needs.
