The Gold Algae Eater is a striking color variation of the well-known Chinese Algae Eater, adding a vibrant golden yellow hue to your aquarium while serving the practical purpose of keeping it clean. This beautiful fish not only helps control algae but also enhances the visual appeal of your tank.

With a slender body and a silver underbelly, the Gold Algae Eater features a subtle patterned horizontal line along its bright yellow/gold back. Originating from Northern India, this fish can grow up to 12 inches in length.

For optimal care, the Gold Algae Eater requires an aquarium of at least 30 gallons, filled with plenty of plants, rocks, and driftwood for hiding. Although adaptable to various aquarium conditions, maintaining consistent water parameters is crucial to minimize stress. In smaller community tanks, the Gold Algae Eater may become territorial. Use caution when housing this species with discus and larger angelfish, as it may harass them.

Breeding the Gold Algae Eater in an aquarium setting has not been observed or successful. There is limited information on distinguishing between males and females, although males typically have more pronounced "thorns" around the mouth.

The primary diet consists of algae found on plants, rocks, glass, and driftwood. Supplement their diet with algae-based wafers if natural algae is insufficient.
