The Elephant Ear Plakat Male Betta is an impressive variety of Betta known for its oversized pectoral fins, bold colours, and compact Plakat-style tail. The large pectoral fins resemble an elephant’s ears and create a striking appearance as the fish moves through the aquarium.
Unlike long-finned Bettas, the Plakat has shorter, more compact fins, giving it a strong, athletic appearance and allowing it to swim more freely. Combined with the dramatic Elephant Ear pectoral fins, this makes for a particularly eye-catching Betta.
Male Bettas are highly territorial and should generally be kept individually. They should not be housed with other male Bettas, and care should also be taken when choosing community tankmates. Avoid aggressive species and known fin-nippers.
A well-planted aquarium with gentle filtration, plenty of cover, and easy access to the water's surface is ideal. Bettas are labyrinth fish, meaning they can breathe atmospheric air from the surface as well as using their gills.
Feeding
Bettas are primarily carnivorous and thrive on a varied, protein-rich diet. Feeding a combination of quality Betta pellets and frozen or live foods will help maintain excellent condition and colour.
Suitable foods include:
- High-quality Betta pellets
- Frozen or live brine shrimp
- Bloodworms
- Daphnia
- Small insect-based foods
Feed small portions once or twice daily, taking care not to overfeed.
