Add vibrant colour and plenty of personality to your Lake Malawi aquarium with the stunning Chailosi Elongatus. Its electric-blue body, contrasting black vertical bars and lively behaviour make it a standout in any Mbuna display.

Native to Lake Malawi, this hardy and active species thrives in an aquarium with plenty of rocks, caves and visual barriers. Males generally develop the strongest colouring, particularly when establishing a territory or preparing to breed.

Recommended group: One male with three or more females

• Tank requirements: We recommend an aquarium of at least 200 litres. Provide extensive rockwork and plenty of hiding places while leaving some open swimming space.
• Water parameters: Maintain a temperature of 24–27°C and a pH between 7.8 and 8.6. Hard, alkaline water with stable conditions and strong filtration is essential.
• Tank mates: Best kept in a carefully planned Mbuna community with similarly sized African cichlids that can handle its active and territorial nature.
• Diet: Feed a quality spirulina-based flake or Mbuna pellet, supplemented with other vegetable-rich foods. Avoid excessive amounts of fatty or high-protein food.
• Breeding: Chailosi Elongatus Cichlids are maternal mouthbrooders. After spawning, the female carries the fertilised eggs and developing fry in her mouth until they are ready to swim independently.

With its brilliant colour and energetic personality, the Chailosi Elongatus makes an impressive addition to a well-maintained Lake Malawi aquarium.
