A perfect starter fish, the Red Tuxedo Swordtail is a hardy, peaceful livebearer that’s ideal for community aquariums. Known for its striking colouration, this variety features a deep black body with blue iridescence and vibrant red/orange fins.
Swordtails are livebearers, meaning females give birth to free-swimming fry rather than laying eggs. They breed readily in the home aquarium, so it’s best to keep more females than males to reduce stress from breeding behaviour.
Males develop their signature “sword” tail extension and a modified anal fin called a gonopodium, typically from around 2.5–4 cm (1–1.5"). Less dominant males may resemble females for extended periods.
