Albino Clown Knifefish

The Albino Clown Knifefish is an extraordinary freshwater predator with a long, flowing body, pale white-to-golden colouring and striking red eyes. Its unusual shape and graceful, wave-like swimming style make it a spectacular centrepiece for a suitably large aquarium.

Although often sold as a small juvenile, this is a true monster fish that can grow close to 1 metre long. It requires an exceptionally large aquarium or indoor pond as an adult and is best suited to experienced fishkeepers who can provide suitable long-term housing.

Provide a spacious aquarium with excellent filtration, subdued lighting and plenty of open swimming room. Caves, driftwood and shaded areas will help this mainly nocturnal fish feel secure.

Feed a varied carnivorous diet containing quality sinking foods, prawns, mussels, earthworms and suitable frozen foods. Feeder fish are not recommended because they can introduce parasites and disease.

Any tank mates must be peaceful, robust and far too large to swallow. Smaller fish will be viewed as food, while aggressive or fin-nipping species should be avoided.

Important: Please ensure you have suitable long-term accommodation before purchasing. This species quickly outgrows standard home aquariums and may eventually require a custom-built aquarium or heated indoor pond.
