Sterbai Corydoras (Corydoras sterbai)

Sterbai Corydoras are one of the most popular and sought-after cory species, loved for their striking patterning and playful nature. Their dark body is covered in beautiful white spotting, while the bright orange pectoral fins add a stunning contrast that really stands out in the aquarium.

Unlike many other corydoras, the white spotting on a dark head is a unique feature that makes Sterbai instantly recognisable. Much like Peppered Corys, they are active, social little catfish with plenty of personality, constantly foraging and interacting with one another.

Growing to around 5–6cm, they are an ideal bottom-dweller for community aquariums.

Care Information

Sterbai Corys are hardy and easy to care for, provided they have stable water parameters and a well-maintained aquarium.

They do best over smooth sand or polished gravel, as rough substrate can damage their delicate barbels and underside while they forage.

As a schooling species, they should be kept in groups of 6 or more, where their natural behaviour really shines.

They are peaceful and suitable with other community fish, live plants, snails, and even adult dwarf shrimp.
