Platies (Xiphophorus maculatus)
Platies are compatible with most other peaceful aquarium species. They are omnivores and may occasionally prey on smaller dwarf shrimp and their fry, but are otherwise safe to keep with peaceful invertebrates. Platies are not picky eaters and will accept a variety of high-quality dry foods, supplemented with frozen foods. They mostly occupy the middle and upper regions of the aquarium and can jump, especially when acclimating to a new tank. A secure lid is recommended to prevent escapes.
Plants are not essential for Platies, but they are appreciated. Hardy stem plants and mosses are safe to keep with this fish. Platies are an excellent choice for beginners and experienced aquarists alike.
